Help to buy Extended Again

Over a quarter of a million households have been helped by the Government’s Help to Buy equity loan scheme helping to pay the deposit for a newly built home.

But there are many properties still to be finished with delay caused by Covid related matters. Delays can be for many months. The current scheme was due to end at the end of March. This meant many Buyers faced losing thousands of pounds. Whether you are a local conveyancing solicitor or nationwide solicitor difficulties can be faced as a result.

It has now been announced that the Government has extended (again) the deadline until the end of May. This should mean many buyers (though probably not all) will not be penalised through no fault of their own. A new, less generous, scheme should follow.

Now we need to know whether the stamp duty holiday will be similarly extended. Many are calling for it not to be stopped or, at least, it’s ending to be phased so it is not a “cliff edge” position on 31st March!

We would all welcome that.
