Reviewing your Will

Your Will should be reviewed every 5 years or sooner and, in particularly, as soon as there has been any change in circumstances in your life. These may be as a result of the following:-

  • Getting married as this will cancel any Will you have made previously.
  • Getting separated or divorced.
  • Moving house.
  • Having a child.
  • If the Executor who you have named in the Will dies.

The Will cannot be amended after it has been signed and witnessed. A Will can be changed by having a Codicil which is making an official alteration. The Codicil must be signed and witnessed in the same way as witnessing a Will. Please note that there are no limitations as to how many Codicils you can add to a Will.

New Will

Should there be major change of circumstances in your life you may wish to consider making a new Will. Your new Will should explain that it revokes all previous Wills and Codicils.
